Skating Pleasures
Isn't this cute? Seb's Japanese is very good, and of course, his French and English are excellent, but he made this pitiful face to help convey his chagrin at once AGAIN forgetting something (this time his backpack) and making all the skaters wait while he went back to Gaienne for it. He told me that during this little two week tour, he's left something behind 4 times, but that's because he's busy taking care of everyone else. I met Seb a year ago when he visited Tokyo and skated with us. This time, he brought 25 French skaters with him to skate and tour Japan. It was quite an event for us, too. And we hope Seb comes back soon, with or without his pals.
Please see Iwa-san's site for some good photos of the Saturday Night Skate and the two City Runs that the French Skaters joined. Also, Sasaki-san is getting pretty skillful with the camera.
Speaking of Iwa-san... Here's a little poem that he wrote recently after a City Run Skate. My attempt to translate it into English follows.
A whim on account of the spring weather--
Gathering at the usual time
in the usual way
Skating the usual route
in the usual way
that much is so.
But-
the light differs
the conversation differs
the mood differs
the fatigue differs.
Everytime the enjoyment is varied.
For that reason you keep coming.
To meet the circle of friends,
talking together,
sliding together,
delightful.
The body and spirit waits for that time.
For only then
can the mind be free.
