お誕生日おめでとう ベーアベーア
*Part of the story added later at the top in Japanese (my self lesson)
13 years ago, when we were expecting our daughter, and lived in Detroit, my teenage sister came to visit (long since grown up and has two babies of her own). Together, we went shopping with the intention of choosing a sleeping toy for the baby. That's how BearBear came into our family. He was the perfect sleeping toy, soft and pleasant, but also washable, with nothing that could come off in baby's mouth. Unfortunately, Monica didn't really have a thing for BearBear so he was just one of the toys.
Before she was six months old, we moved to Tennessee and our next door neighbor in Michigan, Jane, gave her a going away present. That's how Janeo (pronounced Jane-o) came into our family. Jane was a serious smoker, and when we got to TN and noticed that the baby had developed quite an attachment to the doll, we had to set her outside for a week (the doll, not the baby) just to get the smell off. (No kidding!). She wasn't exactly what you'd call washable, (though she's had many a round in the washer since) and she had this goofy yarn hair (since trimmed by Monica... no, it didn't grow back) and her feet and hands were bound to wear thin. (yes and yes... you can see by the photo that she has some appendage issues). But Monica loved her. So, a couple years later, along comes Jonah (doesn't that sound easy) and he loved BearBear from the start.
How was I to know that these two children of mine would create an elaborate imaginary place called Animal World, and it would be divided into Boy World (Jonah's bedroom) and Girl World (Monica's bedroom) and these two worlds would often meet, partnerships would form, complicated games and stories would enfold, and foolish me... I tried to give a boy animal to the baby daughter. As it turns out, since Janeo is Monica's favorite of her MANY animals and since BearBear is Jonah's favorite, those two are partners are the supreme leaders over all of Animal World. So, a long time ago, Jonah worked out when BearBear's birthday would have been. The day that Nikki and I went shopping together in Detroit. So, November 22nd we celebrated his 13th birthday. I object! It's not fair that I should have two teenagers in the house at a time again. He's already quit doing his chore, he's surly, hangs on the phone all the time, won't do his homework, and his room is a mess. Just kidding. BearBear is no problem at all. (Yes, that's a ravioli with a birthday candle.)
How cute! I remember coming to visit but I'm sorry I don't remember going shopping for BearBear. Happy Birthday, BearBear!!!
